Obituary
Joseph Enger, 65 years old and formerly a policeman, was found dead alongside of his automobile near the corner of Mt. Pleasant street and Dankwardt's lane, yesterday morning, shortly after 9 o'clock. Heart failure is believed to have been the cause of his death. A short time before, N.P. Larsen, a farmer working on a nearby field, saw him het out of the car, smoking his pipe. It is believed that he stopped the machine when he felt the attack coming on and fell dead soon afterwards. Mr. Enger was a member of the Burlington police department for about eight years and after that was inspector on the Starr avenue paving job. For several years, however, he had lived in California and came here last February to visit relatives. He bought his automobile a little over a week ago and planned to drive back to California in it. He was born in Burlington, March 7, 1859, and is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Max Zaiss and Mrs. William F. Day of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. A.E. Meadows of Burlington, and one son, E.J. Enger of Burlington. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Sophia Schlecter of San Diego, Calif., and Miss Anna Enger of Burlington, and two brothers, George Enger of Burlington and Albert Enger of Mt. Pleasant. His wife died eighteen years ago. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed, pending word from relatives at a distance.
