Obituary
Delbert Oscar Carlson, 89, of Burlington, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Donnellson Care Center. Born January 12, 1921, in Burlington, he was the son of Oscar Richard and Emma Oetken Carlson. On March 8, 1947, he married Laura Hennings in the Methodist Church parsonage in Cantril. Mr. Carlson attended Burlington schools. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a medic with the 36th Portable Hospital from 1942 until 1946. Coming back from service he returned to continue working for the Burlington Fruit Company until it burned in 1947. He also drove for Lagomarcino Group Company from 1950 until 1964, and retired from Budweiser Distributing Co. in 1981 after 17 years of service. Mr. Carlson was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He enjoyed watching WWF wrestling, NASCAR, Green Bay Packers, and the Hawkeyes, going to BINGO, being with his family, and family vacations. Survivors include his wife of almost 63 years, Laura Carlson of Burlington; four sons, Larry (Lynn) Carlson of Burlington, Randy (Mary) Carlson of West Burlington, and Rick Carlson and Mike Carlson, both of Burlington; one daughter, Linda (Steve Mehaffy) Miller of Burlington; ten grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Kennedy of Burlington; and one brother, Richard (Marion) Carlson of Phoenix, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sister, Betty Seaton, Helen Carlson, Geraldine Rosenberg, and Bernice Carlson; and one brother, Leroy Carlson. Friends may call from noon until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. The funeral service for Mr. Carlson will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 15th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Mel Schmeiser will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the family.
