Betty J. (Smith) Malcom Wunderlich, 77, of Burlington died at 6:29 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Great River Medical Center.
Born July 21, 1938 in Oakville, she was the daughter of Lena and Lester V. Smith.
Mrs. Wunderlich was a 1955 graduate of Oakville High School. On January 27, 1956 she married Wayne Malcom. They divorced in January of 1964. In June of 1964 she married Larry Wunderlich.
Mrs. Wunderlich worked at Sylvania, J.C. Penney, Hy-Vee, West Burlington Bank and Merchants Wholesale. She also worked 12 years for the Des Moines County Sheriff's Department as a part-time correctional officer and transportation officer for the District Court and Jail before retiring in 2003.
Mrs. Wunderlich was involved in Cub Scouts, Brownies and PTA. She enjoyed baking, scrapbooking, celebrating all holidays and loved being with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Wunderlich of Burlington; four children, Steven Malcom of Mt. Pleasant, Sheryl (Tim) Bubniak of Olathe, Kansas, and Brent (Peggy) Wunderlich and Brian (Jill) Wunderlich both of Burlington; her siblings, Edward L. Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Marjorie Urich of Wisconsin, Alice Sorden of Webster, "Rick" Peterson of Muscatine and David Peterson of Lone Tree; four granddaughters, Dakotah Malcom, Kelsey Bubniak, Sarah Ewinger and Jensen Wunderlich; three grandsons, Jacob and Jordan Haltmeyer and Rusty Grisham; and two great granddaughters, Kailee Sharp-Grisham and Addison Ewinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Emily Bubniak; half-brother, Dennis; and her grandparents.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, January 8th, at Lunning Chapel.
The funeral service for Mrs. Wunderlich will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 9th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Dr. James Francisco officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the American Diabetes Association.
