Obituary
William Bauer, a former well-known resident of Burlington and Des Moines county to his reward at his home on East Madison St. Saturday afternoon. He had become overheated several months ago, and that was probably the cause of his death. Prior to that time, he had enjoyed perfect health. William Bauer was born in Germany 64 years ago and came to Burlington at the age of 18 years. He was a hardworking young man and gave good service at whatever he attempted. Thus he was in the employ of the Burlington route for 12 years, put in considerable time at Aspen Grove, worked in the city in various other capacities and then farmed west of town for 20 years, returning to active work last spring when he located to Mt. Pleasant. He is survived by the widow and nine children, three having preceded the father to the other shore. The surviving children are; William and Fred, St. Louis; Mrs. Martha Goerner, Gorges and Walter, Davenport, Mrs. Elsie Westerbeck, Danville township; Frank at home; Mrs. Elizabeth Betz, Toledo, Ohio; Arthur at home. He had been brought up in the Lutheran church and remained true to it’s teaching to the end. He had many good qualities and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Funeral held at Unterkircher’s Chapel in Burlington this afternoon (8-21-1916) and interment took place at Aspen Grove. The Rev. Dr. Robert Neumann of the Bethany Lutheran church officiated.
