Obituary
George Bauer a Burlington boss, who had charge of a construction gang working between the city and West Burlington, was knocked down and injured by a pusher engine yesterday morning. The engine was moving backward to the east, and Bauer was getting one of the men out of the way when he himself was struck by the tank of the engine. He was knocked down and his shoulders and back were injured. He was taken to St. Francis hospital.
News of the death of George Bauer, an old-time section foreman on the Burlington, was reived with genuine regret of many in the city yesterday. The deceased died at the hospital from the effects of and injury received a few days ago at West Burlington. He was struck in the back by a switch engine while attempting to save one of his men who was in danger. He succeeded in getting the man out of the way but was himself struck and hurried down an embankment.
He leaves a wife and one son, the latter being now so ill that it will be impossible to hold the funeral services at the home of the deceased on Locust Street, and the Masonic order will, therefore, conduct the rites at Underkircher’s establishment, on Washington street, tomorrow.
George Bauer was one of the oldest and most faithful employees of the Burlington. For more than twenty years he had been in the employ of the company in the track department. He was a conscientious and trusted workmen and his superiors regret his loss.
