Richard D. Capps, 69, of 1920 Harrison Ave., Burlington, formerly of Kirksville, Mo., and Ottumwa, died at 4;45 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 1996, at Burlington Medical Center. Born Nov. 2, 1926, in Stahl, mo., he was the son of Alva Otto and Ora Pearl Foster Capps. He married Claudien K. Letts Morgan. Mr. Capps was a graduate of Unionville High School in Missouri and a WWII Army veteran, serving in the Military Police, 7th Division, in the South Pacific. He worked for Ewinger Maytag Sales and Service and Fox Appliance from 1947-1962 and then worked as an electrical factory representative for Kathrines Co. until 1970. From 1970-1974, he worked for Capco Equipment Corp., a representative company for Capital Equipments. He and his wife then operated Capps Insurance Co. for 20 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 52 and Moose Lodge, both of Burlington, and was an avid hunter. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard Eugene Capps of Bradenton, Fla., Michael Lee Capps fo Strawberry Point and James Durward Capps of Burlington; four daughters, Patricia Hawk of Brighton, Marjean Sue Vorwerk of Gladstone, Ill., Cynthia Ann Eipert of Aberdeen, Wash., and Mary Lou Capps of Burlington; one stepdaughter, Malinda Hodges of Des Moines; one stepson, Larry Morgan of Fort Madison; one brother, George Capps of Potosi, Wis.; one sister, Dorthey Lorene Lewis of Kirksville, MO.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Visitation will begin at noon today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Capps will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Shirley Bliven officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
