Obituary
Mrs. Mary Jane Morrill Bates, 77, wife of Eli Bates, died at the family residence, 2105 Des Moines Street, at 10:55 this morning. Mrs. Bates has lived in Burlington for 53 years.
She was born in Hudson, New Hampshire, Nov. 13, 1849, and married Eli Bates, August 5, 1868. In 1872 the family moved to Burlington where they lived since that time.
Besides the husband, there survive five daughters, Mr. John Sachbauer and Mrs. Grace McDonald of Burlington; Mrs. Clara Joyce of Plover, Wis.; Mrs. Ben Ford of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. C.F. Rinsenberger of Nekoosa, Wis., and three sons, Marion, Fre, and Harry Bates, all of Burlington. One son, Oscar Bates preceded her in death.
The body was taken to Prugh’s chapel. Funeral services will be conducted from her late residence, 2105 Des Moines Street, Friday afternoon, at 2 o’clock. Rev. Lloyd Tennant of Grace M.E. Church will officiate. Interment at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
