Mable Lee Capps, 83, of Danville, formerly of West Burlington, died at New London Nursing & Rehab on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at 11:15 a.m. Born on April 9, 1926, in Baring, Missouri, she was the daughter of Berley C. and Ethel L. Drury Slocum. She married and later divorced. Mable graduated from Kirksville Teachers College, Kirksville, Missouri. She worked at IAAP for 38 years typing Q clearances, and ended up as head of the Reproduction Department. She was a volunteer for R.S.V.P. She was a good hostess and always enjoyed entertaining her family. Christmas was a very special time for her. She gave gifts generously, including a Hallmark ornament for each family member each year. She was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia (James) Hawk of Danville, Iowa; two sons, Richard E. (Cyndi) Capps of Bradonton, Florida, and Michael L. (Heidi) Capps of Strawberry Point, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Gregory Heald, Jeffery (Angie) Heald, Bradley (Dawn) Heald, Milly Capps, Mike Capps II, Elizabeth Capps, and Sarah Capps; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary (Francis) Behan of Springfield, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Ruth Slocum of Littleton, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Slocum, and two sisters, Margaret Rogers and Lillian May Slocum. Funeral services for Mable Lee Capps will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Prugh's Chapel, Burlington, Iowa. Family members will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. in Prugh's Chapel. A memorial has been established in memory of Slocum Cemetery in Knox County, Missouri
