Alejandro "Alex" Cantu, 51, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Burlington, died at 9:17 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 1996, at Henry County Health Center. Born Sept. 30, 1944, in Galveston, Texas, he was the son of Alex and Eugenia Tovar Cantu. On Dec. 6, 1969, he married Joanne Cantu in Big Lake, Minn. Mr. Cantu worked as a truck driver, He was a member of Teamster Union 218. Survivors include his wife of Burlington; one son, Ken Gregory of Burlington; two daughters, Rosita Boley and Amy Cantu of Burlington; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Steven Cantu, Edward Cantu, and David Cantu of Big Spring Texas, and Reuben Cantu of Gonzales, Texas; nine sisters, Hortencia Soliz and Olivia Hinojosa, Both of Robstown, Texas, Velia Ortiz and Amelie Ramirez, both of Big Springs, Texas, Mary Carrizales of Gonzales, Texas, Esther Nicholson of Ark., Eugenia Torres of Fort Worth, Texas, and Ruth Bell and Estella Spain, both of LaPorte, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one grandson, nine brothers and three sisters. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mr. Cantu will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Benjamin officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Park Place resident's activity fund.
