Jack John Reid, 85, of Burlington, died at 1:56 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab in Mediapolis. Born June 5, 1924, in Burlington, he was the son of John Herman and Doris Grace Watson Reid. On June 2, 1946, he married Marguerite Powell in Burlington. She died May 7, 2006. Mr. Reid worked 33 years as a foreman at Klein Manufacturing. He served in the Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member and church elder of Faith Presbyterian Church before becoming a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as a Cub Scout leader. He enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Green Bay Packers. Survivors include one son, Jack J. Reid of Galesburg, IL; one daughter, Linda D. Reid of Burlington; nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington. The funeral for Mr. Reid will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, with the Revs. Randy Gearhart and Donald Allgood officiating. The body will be cremated following the funeral. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for First Presbyterian Church and Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab.
