Obituary
Josiah Bartlett died at 5:10 am Tuesday in Burlington hospital, after a long illness.
He was the son of the late Edward Otis and Anna Barstow Bartlett and was born in Providence, RI, Feb. 2, 1870.
Surviving are his widow, Mary Breuen Bartlett; a son, John Bartlett of Salt Lake City; three brothers Dwight of Providence, Clarence of Milwaukee and Leroy of Berkeley, Cal., and a sister Mrs. John Wallen, Grinnell, Ia.
Bartlett had a teaching record of 51 years in boys’ preparatory schools in the eastern states. With his wife, he spent many summers in Burlington, and since his retirement from the Gilman Country School in Baltimore, Md., in 1939, they have made their home in Burlington.
Friends of the family declared him a courteous, genial man who found life in the middle west much to his liking. He was a member of the Elks Club, Kiwanis Club, and the Congregational church. The body was removed to Prugh’s chapel.
Funeral services will be held in the residence, 806 N. 4th street. Saturday afternoon at 2:00. Rev. Bruce Masselink will officiate. Friends are invited. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
The remains will be removed to the residence from Prugh’s Chapel Saturday morning.
