James N. Bartell, 60, of Burlington, died at 1:16 am Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born May 17, 1943, in Chicago, he was the son of Patrick and Mary Bologna Bartell. On Oct. 26, 1990, he married Sandra Kay Fuller in Burlington.
Mr. Bartell was a journeyman electrician in Maintenance.
He was a graduate of Maryville Academy in Chicago. He was a Vietnam War Army veteran, where he served as a helicopter gunner.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kevin Bartell and Kenny Bartell, both of Colchester, Ill.; one daughter, Michelle Riffey of Blandinsville, Ill.; four stepsons, Joseph Peterson of Dallas City, Ill., James Peterson of Burlington, Michael Peterson of Niota, Ill., and Jeremy Hoenig at home; two stepdaughters, Lisa Marie Collins of Bluffdale, Ill., and Kimberly Carpenter of West Burlington; 23 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; one brother Patrick Bartell of Chicago; and one sister Rosemary Bartell of Bakersfield, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Visitation will begin at 8 am Friday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 pm.
The funeral for Mr. Bartell will be at 1 pm Saturday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Don Crawford officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard of VFW Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, and Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
