Services for Mrs. Venus Mary Avis, 1227 Madison avenue, will be held at the residence at 3:15 p.m. Friday with burial in Aspen Grove cemetery. The Rev. A.T. Gerhold will officiate.
Mrs. Venus Mary Avis, 68, of 1227 Madison avenue, died at her home today after an illness of three weeks. She was the widow of L.C. Avis, who died in 1932. She was born in Land-Low, Wales, British Isles, May 22, 1866 and had lived in or near Burlington since 1882, coming here from Lee county. Mrs. Avis attended St. Luke Evangelical church. Surviving are two sons, Howard Wood, by a former marriage, and Jack Avis, both of Burlington; two step-sons, Harvey of Burlington and John of Cedar Rapids; four grand-children and two brothers, Joseph and Sam Fairbanks, Burlington. Two brothers also live in England. Plans for the funeral have not been completed. The body is at the Burnett-Wallen funeral home.
