Lewis C. Avis, 80, native of Iowa and resident of Burlington for 28 years, died at his home, 1227 Madison avenue, Sunday morning at 2 o'clock, after six weeks illness. Mr. Avis was born in West Point, Ia., April 6, 1852. he married Emma Newby Peel, who died in 1893 and six years later he was married in Burlington to Venus M. Wood, who survives. He was a farmer and teamster until his retirement, two years ago. He was in good health until about six weeks ago, when he was stricken with his final illness. He was a member of the Baptist faith. Besides his widow he is survived by three sons, Harvey G. Avis of Burlington, John Avis of Cedar Rapids, and Jack F. Avis of Davenport; one stepson, Howard J. Wood of Davenport and four grandchildren,
