Mr. Harvey G. Avis, 2617 Irish Ridge Rd., died at 11:40 a.m. Monday in Mercy hospital. He was 83 years old. Mr. Avis was a retail coal salesman. He had been retired for eight years. A native of Lee county, he was born July 9, 1882, the son of Lewis and Mary Avis. His wife was the late MRs. Lena Avis. Mr. Avis was a member of Bethany Lutheran church and the Modern Woodmen of America. He is survived by a son, Chester H. Avis of Des Moines, a grandson, two great-grandchildren, and a half-brother, Jack Avis of Davenport. Two brothers died previously. The Rev. Earl Meissner, pastor of Bethany church, will conduct services at the Prugh Chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
