Darwin, J. Aveilhe - 1887-1960
Ashes of the late Darwin J. Aveilhe, a former resident of Keokuk who died suddenly of a heart attack in Flint, Okla., May 6, were interred in the Darwin Aveilhe mausoleum in Aspen cemetery at Burlington recently. Born in Waco, Tex. January 31, 1887 he lived with his mother, Mrs. Carl A. Aveilhe and uncle William Platt Darwin in Keokuk around 1900 and was employed at the Wyman-Rand Carpet Co. After leaving Keokuk he moved to California where he was employed until WWI when he entered the navy. For the last 25 years he has been manager of Devil's Knob Ranch in Flint, Okla. Funeral service was held in nearby Siloam Springs, Ark., May 8. A brother George died in 1944 and he is survived by another brother, the Rev. Carlos A. Aveilhe of Utica, N.Y. and a nephew and niece in Tulsa, Okla.The three boys, Darwin, Carl and George all at one time sang in St. John's Episcopal church choir here.
