Virginia K. Camp, 88, of Burlington, died at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at her home. Born September 1, 1917, in Coffeyville, Kansas, she was the daughter of Edward L. and Beulah Kearns King. On June 7, 1942, she married Robert C. Camp. He died on March 2, 1997. Mrs. Camp was a teacher in Burlington, for 28 years and taught kindergarten at Corse Elementary School. She was a graduate of Burlington High School, Burlington Junior College and Iowa State Teachers College. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, and the National Education Honor Society. She was named to Who's Who Among American Teachers. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, clerk of session, Sunday school teacher and a choir member. She was also president of Presbyterian Women, Gems, and National Mariners, PEO, Chapter HU and Delta Kappa Gamma International. She was a member of the Des Moines County Historical Society, Friends of the Library, the book club, Friends of Southeast Iowa Symphony, Retired School Personnel and the National Education Association. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy E. Gibbs of Holland, Penn; one son, John C. Camp of Morris, Illinois; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. Rev. Bill Salzmann will officiate, with interment in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for First Presdyterian Church.
