Funeral services will be held at 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the residence for Miss Dorothy Barrett, 605 South Garfield avenue, Burlington Kindergarten teacher.
A teacher in public schools for 20 years, Miss Barrett was among the prominent women of the city. She had been organist at First Presbyterian Church for the past 14 years and was popular there as well.
Born in Burlington on June 24, 1892, she received her early education in public schools here, later studying at the University of Chicago and completing her education at the California School of Teacher Training at Los Angeles.
She was a life long member of First Presbyterian Church, of the PEO society and of other social organizations. She was a woman of varied talents and of outstanding Christian character.
In her school work, she always had been active in caring for the underprivileged children in her rooms and many will remember with gratitude the help she gave.
Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Kate Barrett; a brother, Edward C. Barrett of Pasadena, Cal., and two sisters, Mrs. Arther Scott of Rock Island, Ill., and Mrs. James Rice of Chicago, Ill.
Dr. Archibald Cardle, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will conduct the services tomorrow afternoon and burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The casket will not be opened at the time of the service but close friends may call Saturday morning.
Miss Barrett, who was a kindergarten teacher at Sunnyside and Lincoln schools, died at her home at 3:15 pm Thursday after a long illness.
