Leo Cain, 80, of Burlington, died at 11:25 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born May 14, 1928, in Burlington, he was the son of John Henry and Ethel Gertrude Bidwell Cain. He married Donna M. Lafferty. They divorced. On May 9, 1959, he married Lucille Coon in Quincy, IL. She died September 7, 2001. Mr. Cain worked 19 ½ years as a welder at J. I. Case Co. in Burlington. He owned and operated Leo's DX and worked as a baker at Sweetheart Bakery. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of U.A.W. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Carol Woodsmall of Kansas City, MO, Brenda Cain of Lomax, IL, and Dorothy Cain and Cynthia Downs, both of Burlington; two sons, Terry Woodsmall of Denver, and Gary Cain of Independence, MO; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Miller of Dover, DE; nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, four brothers, one twin sister, and one grandchild. Visitation with family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington. The funeral for Mr. Cain will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Brad Cranston officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Aspen Grove Cemetry. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
