Charles Summner Atherton, 81, resident of Sperry, Ia, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Treva Gibson, Chicago, Ill., last evening at 7 o'clock. He was visiting his daughter at the time of his death. He was born at Ipavia, Ill., Aug 18, 1857, and moved to Des Moines county in 1898. Nov. 17, 1886 he married Miss Sarah Swise. Seven children were born to them, five of whom survive. Those surviving are Carl S., Troy L., of Sperry, Ia., Burdette, Mrs. Trevia Gibson, and Mrs. Bessie Bergs of Chicago, Ill. Twelve grandchildren also survive. He was a member of the Kingston, Ia., Methodist church. one son, David and one daughter, Mrs. Fern Evans, preceded him in death. The body will arrive in Burlington this evening and be taken to Prugh's chapel pending funeral arrangements.
