Charles "Charlie" "Ike" Fredrick Walter, 68, of 11404 Plank Road, Burlington, died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 1996, at his home. Born March 20, 1928, in Burlington, he was the son of Harry and Edna Remaly Walter. On June 3, 1950, he married Margaret A. Countryman in Burlington. Mr. Walter was a production worker at Champion Spark Plug before his retirement in 1991. He also worked part-time at Packaging, Inc. He was a graduate of New London High School. During high school he sang religious songs on a Chicago radio station. He loved singing, sports, the great outdoors, and was an avid pool player. He was a Mason. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Kathy Coleman of Wilton, Cheri Dacy, Pamela Hellberg, and Robyn Walter, all of Burlington; one son, Jeffrey Walter of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his stepfather, Kenny Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated. A memorial service for Mr. Walter will be 1 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Animal Shelter.
