Mark C. Barr, 64, 2200 River Street, member of a pioneer Burlington family and businessman formerly associated with Wyman-Rand Co., home furnishings store here, died at Burlington hospital at 8:52 pm Friday after a long illness.
He was prominently identified with farming, owning farmland in the vicinity of Yarmouth and Roscoe. Barr was actively interested in the west and took frequent trips to Colorado, where he and Mrs. Barr maintained a summer home in Estes Park.
He was born at Roscoe, Ia Jan. 9, 1893, the son of James Ferrier and Emma Louise Beck Barr. On Dec. 28, 1916, he married Janet Wyman in Burlington. She died in 1926. He married Ruth Wilke on June 7, 1930, in Burlington.
Barr was prominent in a number of organizations in this vicinity, at various times being a member of the Rotary club, Burlington golf club, Flint Hills club, Carthage Lake club, Eagles and Elks. He was a member of the Congregational church.
Surviving are his wife; two children, Mrs. Barbara Wyman Roseberry, Burlington, and James Ferrier Barr, at home; a sister, Mrs. Gerard Huiskamp, Keokuk; two grandchildren, David and Christina Roseberry, and a niece and nephew.
Services will be 3 pm Sunday at First Congregational church, the Rev. Bruce Masselink officiating. Burial will be in the Aspen Grove cemetery. The family will be at Wallen’s chapel until Sunday noon, and the body will lie in state at the church from noon until time for the services.
