Edith Sommerfeld Jacoby Callaway, 100, of Burlington, died at 7:25 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at River Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born Sept. 23, 1897, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William and Ottilie Netzel Sommerfeld. On March 16, 1916, she married Horace Jacoby. He died June 21, 1951. She then married Suell Callaway on Aug.14, 1952, in Kahoka, Mo. He died March 26, 1975. Mrs. Callaway worked as a school crossing gueard at South and Summer streets for many years. She was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ and a past member of the Eagles Auxiliary. Survivors include one stepson, Delbert Callaway of Acton, Calif.; seven stepgrandchildren; a number of stepgreat-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides both husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and three brothers. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel. There will be no family visitation. A graveside funeral for Mrs. Callaway will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Keith Selberg officiating. A memorial has been established for River Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
