Obituary
Lewis Ashway, retired locomotive engineer of the Burlington railroad, died at his home, 1812 South Main street, at 2:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He was in his seventy-eighth year and his death followed an illness since last November. Mr. Ashway had been a resident of Burlington for the last twenty-five years. He was born in Maryland, November 5, 1853, and he lived most of his younger life in that state before coming west and entering upon his career with the Burlington railroad. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons and one daughter. Harry Ashway of Los Angeles, Cal., Frank Ashway of Monterey, Cal., and Randolph, Lewis and Ruth Ashway, all of Burlington. He was well known in lodge circles having been a member of Kaaba Shrine of Davenport and Alpha Blue lodge of Galesburg, Ill., A.F.&A.M. Vesper lodge I.O.O.F. of Galesburg, Ill., Division 151 B. of L.T. and Knights Templay of Burlington. Mr. Ashway was also a member of the First Presbyterian church. The body was taken to Prugh's chapel but funeral arrangements have not been completed, pending word from relatives.
