Obituary
The funeral of Mrs. Mark C. Barr of 127 Grand street, who died last evening at 8:30, at Burlington hospital, will take place Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock from the home of Mr. and Mrs. JL Edwards on Polk street, it being her dying request that the services be held in the house where she was born and reared.
The death of Mrs. Barr, one of Burlington’s most popular and gracious young matrons, is a severe blow to the members of her family and a wide circle of friends. Several days ago she entered the hospital but few knew that her condition was serious.
Mrs. Barr, who was Janet Harriett Wyman, was born in Burlington on June 23, 1894. She spent her entire life here, with the exception of the time she attended school at Ferry Hall, Lake Forest, Ill. The family is one of Burlington’s oldest and best known, both in business and social circles, Mrs. Barr’s grandfather, the late JH Wyman being the founder of the Wyman and Rand company.
The possessor of a gentle and winning personality, Mrs. Barry was deservedly a favorite among her friends. The genuine affection with which she was regarded by all makes the shock of her death double hard to bear. In every social and domestic activity, her many admirable qualities of womanliness and consideration for others were apparent.
Mrs. Barr was united in marriage with Mark C. Barr on December 28, 1916. The union was most happy and the breaking up the little family circle, by the loss of its most beloved member is indeed deplorable. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Barr is survived by one daughter, Barbara, and her mother, Mrs. JL Edwards. Mrs. Barr attended the Congregational church.
