Obituary
Last evening a little past six, JF Barr, one of Burlington’s most prominent and progressive citizens, died at his home at 809 North Seventh street. Mr. Barr had been an invalid for a long time, and in spite of the best medical skill and the careful and loving attention of those at home, he was unable to find relief only when death came to relieve him of his sufferings.
James F. Barr was born in Washington township, Des Moines County, on March 11, 1864, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Barr. In 1888 he married Miss Emma L. Beck, youngest daughter of the late Conrad Beck of Morning Sun. Before his removal to our city, he was actively engaged in farming and other pursuits and forming those habits which he has so manifestly displayed as the far-seeing, energetic and capable secretary and treasurer of the Iowa Soap Co. of this city. The progress of this corporation is to no small degree owing to his active and resourceful well-trained business mind. He never commenced a task that he did not finish. Mr. Barr by his hearty goodwill and pleasant manner enjoyed the esteem and respect of all with whom he came in contact. His business associates found him the pleasantest of companions. His home life was ideal and he was never so happy as when with his wife and children.
Deceased was a member of the First ME church of this city and a liberal and ready supporter in all church work. He is survived by his widow and two children, Mark C. and Lillian Marguerite, and his mother who is a resident of Mediapolis.
The funeral will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon from his late residence. The burial will be private in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
