Obituary

James A. Ashby, 614 Sycamore street, died at his home Thursday at 11:20 a.m., after an illness of 5 months. He was born in Bloomfield Feb. 14, 1903, the son of Henry and Minnie Ashby. He has been a resident of Burlington for the past 4 1/2 years, and worked as a heavy equipment operator for the McCarthy Construction company. He was a member of the AFL truckers union. On July 17, 1937, he married Mrs. Gladys Franklin in Ft. Madison. he was a member of the Methodist church. surviving are his widow; one stepson, Jerry Franklin, at home; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Lile of Perry, Iowa; 2 brothers, F.H. Ashby of Ft. Madison and Howard Ashby of Sigourney, Iowa; 2 sisters, Mrs. Opal Shirkey of Chicago; and Mrs. Dave Harvey of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews. His father and one sister are dead.
Funeral services for Mr. James Arthur Ashby, who passed away May 30, 1946, will be held in Prugh's Chapel, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'lcok. Rev. John Parr will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
