Mr. Robert L. (Bob) Zaiser, 79, of Burlington died at 6:08 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2015, at Great River Medical Center - Klein Center.
Born August 3, 1936, in Burlington, he was the son of Lester O. and Blanch L. (Bazel) Zaiser. On July 2, 1960, he married Carol Freshwater in Fairview Park, Ohio.
Bob graduated from Burlington High School in 1955. He received his Business Administration degree from Luther College and attended Iowa State University where he studied landscaping.
Bob was a horticulturist, landscaper, and founder of Zaiser Landscaping. He retired in 2009 due to health reasons. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Carthage Lake Club, Moose Lodge #579, a past member of Des Moines County Conservation Board, SCC Agriculture Program Board, and the Burlington Noon Kiwanis. In 2009 he received the Distinguished Service Award from Luther College. He was a naturalist, gardener, sheep herder, cattle breeder, bird watcher, and enjoyed the companionship of his dogs.
Bob enjoyed ski trips with family and friends and fishing in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Carol Zaiser of Burlington; his three children, R. Scott (Nina) Zaiser and their children, Ethan and Elayna of Burlington, daughter, Vicki L. Cassabon (Rick Koeller) of Burlington and her daughter, Rachel of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and son, Marc E. (Lea) Zaiser and his daughter, Bailey Darnall of Burlington; one sister, Betty Stiles of Burlington; two nieces, Rona (Tim) Robinson of Burlington and Sophia Marie (Steve) Antonczyk of Bailey, Colorado; one great niece, Paige (Jason) Zambon of Greeley, Colorado; one great nephew, Derek Ericson of Crystal Lake, Illinois and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Michelle Ericson.
The Celebration of Life service for Bob will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 5th, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Melisa Bracht-Wagner officiating. The Zaiser Family would like you to join them for food and fellowship at the Loft following the service.
The family would prefer memorials to First United Methodist Church Audio-Visual Fund, the Norb Pruisner Scholarship Fund at Luther College, or Des Moines County Conservation.
