Obituary
Born July 8, 1938, in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Stanley and Helen Roth McBeth. On June 29, 1968, he married Carmelee Hack at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden, Iowa. Larry was a 1956 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Iowa Wesleyan Cllege in1959, and a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1961. Larry was a dedicated school administrator, principal, and teacher from 1959 until 2001 in the Burlington and Mt. Pleasant school districts. As one of his proudest professional accomplishments, Larry shepherded through a rederendum authorizing funding for new school buildings in Burlington. A long time member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Larry served as church council president. He also participated in the Iowa Association of School Administrators and the Burlngton Education Foundation. He enjoyed yard mowing on his John Deere tractor, cooking, reading and spending time with his family. Larry was also a wildlife admirer, an avid gardener and nature enthusiast, and a terrific story teller to his grandchildren. Larry attended many burlington High School athletic events and was also an Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Carn McBeth of Burlington; son Daryn (Amy) McBeth of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and brother Dick McBeth of Mt. Pleasant. Larry was also "Papa" to his ghree grandchildren: Gavin (5), Wyatt(2), and Mallory (3 mos). He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joan Twyman. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, at the Lunning Chapel in Burlington. A Celebration of Life for Larry will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 3, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington. Rev. Susanne Smith will officiate. Memorials have been established for Messiah Lutheran Church or the Burlington Educatinal Foundation. According to Mr. McBeth's wishes, his body as been cremated.
