Marion Louise Hitch, 72, of Burlington, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, april 25, 2004, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center. Born April 5, 1932, in Snyder, Neb., she was the daughter of Earnest Martin and Ethel Inez White Poppe. On Feb. 2, 1957, she married James R. Hitch in Denver. They later divorced. Mrs. Hitch worked various jobs, retiring as a food server for the Burlington School District on May 19, 2001. She was a 1949 graduate of Gordon High School in Gordon, Neb. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Altar Guild and Social Ministries at the church. She liked to fish. She was a Korean War Navy veteran. Survivors include three daughters, LeAnne Springsteen and Rhonda Brockett, both of Burlington, and Stephanie Ebersole of Hutchinson, Kan.; six grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Poppe and Roger Poppe, both of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. Visitation will be from noon to 7:30 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Hitch will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Engstrom officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Bethany Lutheran Church and Great River Medical Center Hospice.
