Obituary
Mrs. Carolyn F. Carter, 76, of Burlington died at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born March 4, 1941 in Gulfport, Mississippi, she was the daughter of John and Neomia (Powell) Simmons. On June 15, 1957 she married Fred Carter in Gulfport.
Mrs. Carter was a graduate of Burlington High School and the SCC Nursing Program. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for Burlington Medical Center and Surgeons, Inc. for over 30 years.
Mrs. Carter was a long time member of the Methodist Church. She also was a certified lay minister of the Methodist Church. Mrs. Carter loved quilting, flowers and gardening, singing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Fred Carter of Burlington; two daughters, Susan (Jody) Shoemaker of West Burlington and Ester (Terry) Bloomer of Hudson, Wisconsin; one son, John (Jan) Carter of West Burlington; five grandchildren, Dennis Carter, Andrew Bloomer, Erin Muhlenbeck, Matthew Shoemaker, and David Shoemaker; two brothers, Allen (Larie) Simmons of Gulfport, Mississippi and Brian (Carol) Simmons of Pocahontas, Arkansas; and two sisters, Donna (Ray) Bell and Sharon Jenkins both of Gulfport.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Pete, Robert, John, Gary, and Danny; and one sister, Rhonda.
Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
The celebration of life for Mrs. Carter will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 26th, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Tracey Burgus officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Mediapolis Youth Groups and Great River Hospice House.
