Obituary
Barnet C. Armstrong. known to almost every one in the city as Major Barney Armstrong, passed away this afternoon at his home 1516 Aetna street, of old age. He was one of the oldest living settlers of this county and with his passing, goes one of the most interesting of men. Major Armstrong came to Burlington in the early fifties and had been a resident of Burlington ever since. He was a civil war veteran and had an arny career which is unsurpassed for valor and faithfulness. He was a member of the local octogenarian society and at one time served as doorkeeper of the national house of representatives at Washington. Major Armstrong was a philosopher in the truest sense of the word. He was a great reader and his mind was stored with the knowledge of multitudinous subjects. He was a fluent talker, had ready command of language and it was an education to listen to him elucidate upon various subjects. He had seen life in all its phases, had experienced ups and downs, brushed elbows with the county's greatest men. There was no truer gentleman than Major Armstrong. Always gentle and kind, he was the quintesence of politeness and was a man of distinguished bearing. He is survived by his widow and one daughter, Mrs. Bishop.
