William Wallace Archibald

Obituary
Mr. William Wallace Archibald died at his home, 1515 Spray street, at 10:30 o;clock Monday morning. For the past year he had been in poor health, and for the past five weeks he suffered from a paralytic stroke. Mr. Archibald has resided in Burlington since 1872. A contractor and builder by trade, he constructed some of the finest of the older residences and business properties. he served for about three years in Co. K, of the Eighth Iowa Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. He was a member of the Mathies Post, G.A.R. and for sixty years an Odd Fellow and one of the older members of Washington Lodge No.1. For the past forty years he has been a faithful member of the First Baptist church and during his latter years served on the board of deacons. He was born in Cumberland, Md. March 31, 1830 and spent his early manhood in Wapello, Iowa. He was married in Burlington on June 26, 1856 to Miss Mary Shaner of New London, by the late Rev. Wm. A Salter. Of this union were born eight children. The widow and the following children survive: James T., of Butte, Mont: Mrs. Dora Meek, St. Louis, Mo.; Thos. S. of Burlington; and Mrs Minnie Neal, of Houston, Texas, Mr. Archibald is also survived by a brother, Rufus Archibald, at Wapello. The funeral service at the residence Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Roy H. Barrett officiating.
