Obituary

Eugene G. Appleton, 62, well known Burlington Resident, passed away at 4 o'clock this morning at Mercy hospital, following a protracted illness. Mr. Appleton was born in Davis county, Iowa, April 18, 1869. Coming to Burlington when a young man he became associated with the Peoples Gas & Electric Co., and continued in their employ until three years ago when ill health forced him to relinquish his duties and go to Florida. He had been a resident of Burlington for about 35 years, and was well known to a large circle of friends, who will sincerely mourn his untimely death. In 1893 he was united in marriage with Miss Deo M. Bauch, of Milton, the ceremony taking place in that city. Mr. Appleton was a member of Des Moines Lodge No.1, A.F. & A.M. and the Modern Woodman fraternity. He attended the Congregational church. Surviving are the widow; two brothers, James P. of Keokuk, and DeWirr, of Seattle, Wash; one sister, Mrs. Edith A. Goode, of BOston, Mass. The remains were taken to Prugh's chapel, pending funeral arrangements, which will be announced later.
