Paul M. Anhalt, 45, of 1226 N. Seventh street, German WW veteran who served nearly two years in a British prison camp, died at Burlington hospital this morning. Ill but 10 days, Mr. Anhalt died following an operation. Enlisting in 1915, he had served in the front lines two years when captured by the English in 1917 after being wounded several times and being severely gassed, only to return to the trenches. He was released from a British prison camp in France in 1919. He was born in Berlin, Germany, Nov.11, 1894. In 1920, he was married in Berlin to Emma Marie Otto. Coming to the United States in 1924, he was followed a year later by his wife. Mr. Anhalt had been employed by the Mid-West Biscuit company three years, being maintenance man there. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran church.
Surviving are his widow two sisters, Mrs. Richard Temple of Waterloo, Ia., and Mrs. Frieda Baumgart, Germany; and a brother, Frederic, of Chicago, Ill.
Services will be held at the Burnett-Wallen funeral home at a time to be set later. The body is at the funeral home.
