Mr. Joseph Michael Butts, 67, of West Burlington, died at his residence Saturday, March 15, 2014.
Born April 15, 1946 in Burlington he was the son of Russell P. and Vada B. Butts.
Joseph was a painter and welder working for Exide, J.I. Case, Murray Ironworks, Nebraska Boilers, and retiring from Lance Corporation in West Burlington.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ and a past member of the Moose Lodge of Burlington. He loved fishing, the river, playing pool and drinking beer with his friends.
Joseph served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include three children, Jo Brown and Susan Butts both of Burlington and Jeremy Ives; six grandchildren; one sister, Georgia Brobston of West Burlington, two brothers, Albert L. Butts of Palmyra, Nebraska and Steven R. Butts of Burlington and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Military rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at Lunning Chapel by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Following military rites we will go in procession to Aspen Grove Cemetery for the graveside inurnment with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will be held at First United Church of Christ following the inurnment.
A memorial has been established for VFW Posts 10102 and 9162.
Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
