John Jacob Andre, 80, of 1116 South Seventh street, retired Burlington grocertman, died Tuesday at 11:50 a.m. in Mercy hospital after being in ill health for the past year. He had been hospitalized since Feb 1.
He was born Jan. 23, 1869, in Burlington, the son of Christian and Katherine Andre. He was a member of Zion Evangelical & Reformed church. He was first married to Mellie Knoener, who died April 27, 1908. The couple had 2 children, one dying in infancy. On Jan. 19, 1916, he married Minnie Vollmer. She died May 15, 1946. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Madeline Biederman of La Mesa, Calif., several nieces and nephews, including William Andre and Paul Koch of Burlington. His parents, 3 sisters and 5 brothers are dead.
The body was taken to Prugh's chapel. Funeral arrangements are pending. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
