Obituary
The funeral of Mrs. Mary Anderon, whose death was noted in Tuesday morning's Hawk-Eye, will be held from the family home, four miles south of the city, Friday afternon, at 2 o'clock, with interment in Aspen Grove. Friends are invited to these services.
Mrs. Mary E. Anderson, wife of the late James A. Anderson, passed away at 12:20 o'clock Tuesday morning, at her home in Concordia township, five miles south of town, death being due to pneumonia.
Mary Emma Vertz, daughter of Mary and George Vertz, was born in Armah, Pa., April 26, 1839. She came to Burlington at the age of sixteen years and was united in marriage in 1860 to James A. Anderson of this county, forming one of the pioneer families of Concordia township. To this union were born four children; Mrs. Virginia Harvey, Scranton, Pa.; Frank B. Anderson of Concordia township, and Horace C. and Lillian Emma Wedertz, deceased. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Thomas Vertz, Des Moines; James Vertz, Burlington: Dixon Vertz, Des Moines: Mrs. Ermina McGriff, New Virginia; Mrs. Rebecca Campfield, Breckenridge, Minn. The following grandchildren survive: Mrs. L.F. Bryant, Burlington; Albert J. Harvey, Scranton, Pa.; Mrs. John Jeffrey, San Antonio, Texas; Harold Wedertz of Manitowac, Wis., and four great-grandchildren. She was a devout Christian woman of many excellent qualities, a charter member of Spring Grove church, also a Sabbath school teacher for a number of years, and will be mourned by a countless number of friends who will ever keep her memory green.
