Ruth Helen Butler, 92, of Burlington, died at Burlington Care Center, on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 5:00 a.m.
Born on November 24, 1918 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of William and Hattie Trobee Lippert. She married Edward Byron Butler on December 26, 1939 in Burlington, Iowa. He died on May 30, 1989.
Ruth was a homemaker. She loved to cook, clean and was particularly gifted in preparing German potato salad. She was a very active member of Oak Street Baptist Church and served on several boards. Ruth was a family oriented person who loved her family very much.
She is survived by one son, Edward (Barbara) Byron Butler Jr. of Clive, Iowa; one brother, Donald Lippert of Burlington, Iowa, with whom she lived for eleven years; one sister, Betty (Hartley) McPherson of Burlington, Iowa; three grandchildren, Carey (Paul) Kersey of Carroll, Iowa, Scott (Angie) Butler of Edmond, Oklahoma and Suzanne Butler of San Jose, California; four great-grandchildren, Kate, Harrison, Julian and Presley; several nieces, nephews and special care-giving niece, Connie Butler.
She was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers, Clarence, Glenn, Oscar, Ralph and Walter Lippert; two sisters, Gladys Zachmeyer and Genevieve Lippert.
Funeral services for Ruth Helen Butler will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Street Baptist Church, Burlington, Iowa. Pastor Gary Karas will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Oak Street Baptist Church.
Memorials have been established for Oak Street Baptist Church and Great River Hospice House.
