Sylvia Phyllis Busse, 90, of Burlington, died at 12:16 AM Monday, January 30, 2017, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born November 20, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Clyde Benton and Emma Suesens Holsteen. On February 15, 1953, she married Victor Wayne Busse in First United Church of Christ in Burlington.
She was a 1945 graduate of Burlington High School. After high school graduation, Sylvia worked eight and a half years for Iowa Southern Utilities Company as a cashier. She then went on to work at Boch's Flowers shop, Gnahn Book Store, and was a homemaker.
She was an active member of First United Church of Christ, the church's Shining Stars Circle, and past member of Consistory. She was also a member of Golden Oldies and her Wednesday morning coffee group. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, writing poems, collecting paper weights, dolls, and craft pins; she also enjoyed traveling with friends and family to Europe, England, Alaska, and Hawaii, and had gone on several cruises.
Survivors include three sons, Steven Victor (Patricia) Busse of Burlington, Thomas Albert Busse of Quincy, IL, and Dwain Allen (Debra) Busse of Danville; six grandchildren, Erin (Shamus) Wells, Paula Busse, Andrew Busse, Sarah Busse,Tyler Busse, and Emily Busse; two great-grandchildren, Reese Wells and Lane Well; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 Thursday, February 2, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Busse will be 10:00 AM Friday, February 3, 2016, at First United Church of Christ with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for First United Church of Christ.
