Mary Ann Dewein, 79, of Burlington, died at 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009. Born November 24, 1929, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William and Edith Burtalo. She married Albert "Jack" Smith in 1949, in Burlington. In 1959 she married Jack Dewein in Burlington. Mrs. Dewein was a bartender and cook at Steve's Place for 25 years. She was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed socializing, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and John Wayne movies, and she loved life. She collected ceramic pig figurines. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Fowler of Wever; four sons, Bob Smith of Mediapolis, Gary Smith and Butch Smith, both of Burlington, and Mike Dewein of Key Largo, Florida; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Burtalo and Rueben Burtalo, both of Burlington; one sister, Dolly Phillips of West Burlington; nieces; and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday. The memorial service for Mrs. Dewein will be at 7 p.m. Monday in Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Marshall Jackman officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
