Obituary
Clarence Edwinbalzer, 58, life resident of Burlington and an employee of the Burrus Monument company for about 40 years, died Monday morning at his home, 2018 Highland Avenue, after an illness of about 3 months. He was born in Burlington, July 28, 1888.
Balzer married Lillian Gustofson in Burlington Feb. 27, 1923.
He was a member of old Company H of the Iowa state guard and saw combat action in WWI in the field artillery. He participated in a number of major engagements and earned citations and other honors. He was a member of the First Evangelical and Reformed church, Elks, Eagles and Moose lodges, the VFW and the American Legion. Surviving are his widow and one sister, Mrs. OP Weir of Burlington. Two sisters are dead.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday at the Burnett-Wallen funeral home. Rev RG Beck will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery and there will be military rites at the grave.
