Obituary

Mrs. Robert Ballard, 16, of Peoria, Ill., bride of six months and former Burlington girl, was killed instantly and two men including her husband, 21, were injured when their automobile crashed into a ditch on Route 99, nine miles north of Burlington at approximately 11 o’clock Saturday night.
Mrs. Ballard’s death resulted from a fractured skull and although she was taken to Mercy hospital with her two companions, it is thought that she died at the time of the accident or immediately afterward without knowing what had occurred. The other car involved in the accident did not stop.
Mrs. Ballard, the former Ruth Alberta Wilcox, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. CM Wilcox, 1317 Angular Street. She was born here March 2, 1922, and she and Ballard were married in Burlington last June 21.
Surviving besides her husband and parents are: five sisters, Catherine Jane, Doris, Florence, Frances, and Charlotte, all of Burlington, and her grandmother, Mrs. Fred Landhouser of this city. She was a member of Williamson Memorial United Presbyterian Church of Burlington.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ballard will be held at Giles chapel at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. RW Jamison, pastor of Williamson Church. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
