Obituary
Her mind affected by the heat, Mrs. David Almendinger, while temporarily deranged, committed suicide this morning at her home, 878 Valley street by hanging. Her dead body fully clothed, was found this morning at 5 o'clock in the kitchen, suspended to a hook on the wall by a rope. The dead woman several years ago suffered a sunstroke from which she never fully recovered. Each summer during the hot weather she suffered considerably. Yesterday she complained of her head aching, but gave no intimation of her intention of ending her life. The act was probably not premeditated, but done on the spur of the moment. Her husband on arising this morning noted her absence and on entering the kitch was forified at the sight which met his eyes. He immediately notified Coroner Vert PRugh, who made an examination.
The unfortunate woman was born in Burlington March 4, 1849, and became the wife of David Almendinger, who conducts a saloon on Jefferson street. She was a member of the First German Evangelical church and was a member of the Ladies Aid society of that church. She had spent her entire life in Burlington and was well known in German circles. She possessed many friends who are deeply grieved over her untimely death and extend their sympathy to the bereaved family. It is a sad blow to the members of her immediate circle, as she had been the center of the home and was deeply loved in the family. Besides the husband she is survived by six childrem: Mrs. Julia Schuler, Mrs. Louisa Ziegenheim, Albert, Caroline, David Jr. and William D. Almendinger.
The funeral wil be held from the residence on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
