Marjorie June Holdsworth Allgood, 42-year old wife of Dr. Donald W. Allgood, Burlington Rt 3, died at her home Sunday, April 4.
The daughter of Ray and Mabel Vander Heiden Holdsworth, she was born Aug. 15,1933, at Harvery. She married Dr. Allgood Jan. 6, 1956, in Des Moines.
Mrs. Allgood was a member of First United Presbyterian church, where she had been a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, and youth sponsor. In the spring of 1975, she became the first woman to be elected to the YMCA board of directors. She had been a Girl Scout leader and a long-time worker in Sunnyside PTA, which homored her for Outstanding COntributions to Youth in 1975. She was active in the operation of FISH and was a member of BUrlington Golf and Burlington Swim clubs, PEO, and TTT. She had been nominated for Burlington Outstanding Young Woman by Burlington Junior Women's Club.
Surviving: The husband; two sons, Jeffery and Steven, at home; four daughters, Jill, a student at University of Iowa, Iowa City, and Susan, Janet and Sarah, at home; her parents, now of Oskaloosa; and two sisters, Pauline Grindstaff, Indianola, and Ruth VanEnglehoven, Oskaloosa.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Tuesday, First United Presbyterian church, Rev. Gary Burnett and Rev. John Vickers; Aspen Grove cemetery. A memorial has been established for the new YMCA building.
