Obituary

Sarah Harris Allen was born at Prestonsburg, Floyd county, Kentucky, June 14th, 1833 and came to Iowa in 1846. She was one of a family of thirteen children of whom there are Hiram, James and Elizabeth still living. She was a devout member of the Christian church with which she was united at an early age. On the 10th of November, 1861, she was united in marriage to J. Frank Allen, who preceded her in death some two years, and three daughters, Gladys, Margaret and Elizabeth, remain to mourn their loss. For months those near had watched with anxious hearts her waning strength and loving hands had done much to lessen her sufferings, but on Wednesday the Angel of Death hovered near and with noiseless wings transported the mother's spirit unto God who gave it, and toa realm of eternal day. She bore her suffering with great patience and Chhristian resignation and was ready and willing to go to her reward. Sad indeed is the hour that takes away from us the one above all others dear our mothers-and yet our Heavenly Father is never so near to us as when through deep waters he calls us to go, and with the blessed assurance of a happy reunion over there we take up life's burdens again amie leaden skies, but with a new tie in heaven-that of mother. The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at three o'clock from the Harris house.
