Obituary
Rex H. Baker, 38, proprietor of the Baker Coal company and manager of the Burlington Ice and Fuel Company, died at St. Francis hospital at 9 o’clock last night following an appendicitis operation performed Wednesday morning. He had been ill less than three days at the time of his death.
Aside from his business interests, Mr. Baker was prominent in lodge activities in this section of the state. He was a member of the Malta lodge, 315, A.F and A.M; Iowachapter No. 1, R.A.M.; Zerrubabel council, No. 22; R. and S. M.; the Eagles and Moose Lodges, the United Commercial Travelers and the American Business Club. He was also a member of the First Christian church.
Mr. Baker was born in Breckenridge, Colo., Aug. 9, 1892, and came to Burlington with his parents when he was eight years old. He attended the local public schools and later took a course at Elliorr’s business college here.
He was married to Miss Grace Kane 15 years ago. Mrs. Baker and two children, Mark, 11, and Mary, 6, survive him. He is survived also by his father, George Baker of Burlington and one brother, Norville E. Baker of Mount Claire, N.J. His mother and one sister preceded him in death.
The body was taken to Prugh’s chapel. Funeral services for Mr. Baker will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 at the home, 1018 Washington Street.
Three members of the American Business Club and three members of the Eagles lodge will be pallbearers. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
