Obituary
Mrs. Louisa Baker, widow of the late Jacob Baker, passed away at 5:45 o’clock last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis THalheimer, 1211 North Nith street, after an illness of two days, death being due to pneumonia. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Baptist church, a good woman, who had a host of friends and who will keep her memory green.
Louisa Kane was born in Nashville, Tenn., December 16, 1815, and came to Burlington late in the fifties. Forty-seven years ago she was united in marriage with Jacob Baker, who lost his life in a railway accident four years ago. The union was blessed with two children, one of whom passed away twenty-five years ago, the other is Mrs. Minnie E. Thalheimer, who makes the evening of the old lady’s life comfortable and looked after her every want. Mrs. Baker was blessed with the enjoyment of perfect health. In all ninety-two years, she had scarcely known a sick day. Last Sunday she took dinner with the family and seemed in her usual health and the best of spirits. If the dread disease had not attacked her she might have lived a number of years, for she came of a family remarkable for their perfect health and their longevity. And as physical health had been perfect, so her mental health was unimpaired, and while she had not read so much in late years as formerly, she retained a keen interest in everything that was going on in the greater world as well as in that little world, of which her home was the center.
