Obituary
Mrs. Caroline Blaul, the widow of the late John Blaul, Sr., died at her home No. 113 South Sixth Street, at 5:30 on Sunday morning.
Death came suddenly and with a very slight warning to her family. Mrs. Blaul’s death was due to a heat stroke. Her health was apparently as good as ever until the fatal stroke came on. She had complained somewhat of the intense heat during the past week but ate and slept well and seemingly suffered no more than the discomfort common to everybody. At about 4:00 Saturday afternoon she suddenly became ill. She was completely prostrated and a physician was called. He pronounced her illness due to the effects of the heat. He was able to relieve her greatly and it was though she would rapidly recover to her normal health. However, she grew worse during the night at 5:30 Sunday morning death resulted.
Mrs. Caroline Blaul was born in Lippe Detmold, Germany, on August 26, 1827. With her father, Charles Knoener, Sr., and the other members of his family she came to America and directly to Burlington, in 1849. In 1856 she was married to Mr. John Blaul, Sr., in this city. Their union was a happy one. Being a home-loving, cheerful woman, she was naturally well fitted for the with of an energetic, successful man of business. She was an ardent member of the German Evangelical church, but her delight in living was in the pleasures and companionships of quiet home life and domestic surroundings.
Her husband died in 1885. The following children survive her; John Blaul, Jr., Emilia, Charles, Theodore, and Louis, all of this city. One daughter, Pauline, died last fall and two sons died in infancy. Two sisters, Mrs. HF Kirchhoff and Mrs. Wm. Tubbesing, both residents of Burlington, also survive her.
Funeral services will be held from the residence, No. 113 South Sixth Steet, at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow.
