Joanne Ruth Burgus, 76, of Sperry, died at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at her home. Born January 8, 1935, at home in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ralph Herman and Ethel Ida Kochwasser Dankwardt. On September 1, 1956, she married Marvin Burgus in Burlington. Mrs. Burgus was a homemaker. She graduated from St. Paul's School in 1952, and from Burlington Beauty Academy. She was of the Catholic faith. She was a member of the Antique Mermaids swin group. She enjoyed making fudge for her grandchildren, watching game shows, and traveling to Phoenix. Survivors include her husband; one son, Jeff Burgus of Mediapolis; four daughters, Karen Schootman of O'Fallon, MO, Kelli Reichelt of Burlington, Kristi Webster of Bettendorf, and Cheri Weber-Wright of Farley; 13 grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Aringdale of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and one infant brother. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where her family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Christian wake at 5 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Burgus will be at 10 a.m. Monday at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington, with the Revs. David Steinle and Mike Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established.
